 Rabiul Awwal 1441 Mubarak to all! There are as many paths  to Allah swt as there are souls. Similarly, there are as many ways to remember Him (swt) and his beloved(saw) as there are souls. Mawlid al Nabi (saw) is a celebration His beloved (saw) in remembrance, salutation and in action.

Join us at The Grand Mawlid with Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans, Turkish artist Bekir Salim and Munshids Ibrahim al-Nass and Mouaz al-Nass. RSVP required at https://mawlid.pingg.com/GrandMawlid2019  We are happy to announce we will have babysitting in the gym that includes inflatable moonwalk, balloons, henna, and face-painting at suggested donation of $5 per child (cash only). So please come with the family and enjoy! You are required to register at the following link:  https://www.cognitoforms.com/ChicagoMawlid1/BabysittingReservationFormAges311  We will also be providing Turkish style refreshments & light dinner in the cafeteria following the program.    This Mawlid is for all cultures and backgrounds, there will be performances in 5 different languages including Spanish and Turkish including Turkish artist Bekir Salim. There will also be powerpoint translations for most of the Arabic performances!    Due to it being a school/work night we will begin promptly with Maghrib prayer and end at 7:30 with Isha’ prayer.

Biographies:

Ustadh Ubaydullah Evans is ALIM’s first Scholar-in-Residence.  He converted to Islam while in high school. Upon conversion, Ustadh Ubaydullah began studying some of the foundational books of Islam under the private tutelage of local scholars while simultaneously pursuing a degree in journalism from Columbia. Since then he has studied at Chicagoland’s Institute of Islamic Education (IIE), in Tarim, Yemen, and Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, where he is the first African-American to graduate from its Shari’a program. Ustadh Ubaydullah also instructs with the Ta’leef Collective and the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) at times.

Sidi Ibrahim Nass is of Syrian descent, and holds an Ijaza (traditional license) in Quran the prominent Quranic reciter, Sheikh Hasan al Kurdi, may Allah have mercy on his soul, and also from his father Sheikh Samir Nass. He studied Inshad and Maqamat (the various styles of religious poetry & songs) under foremost singers in Syria.  He currently lives in Tampa, Florida where he teaches Quran and helps oversee a Quran memorization program.

Sidi Mouaz Nass is of Syrian descent and was born in Flint, Michigan. He studied Inshad and Maqamat (the various styles of religious poetry & songs) under foremost singers in Syria. An expert singer and drummer, he has been involved in many renowned musical performances in the USA, UK, Syria, and Jordan. He currently resides in Houston, Texas and travels frequently for various performances around the country.

Bekir Salim is a Turkish poet, musician, columnist, and renowned mural painting artist.    He has been interested in arts since he was 6 years old. He participated in TRT ́s children's choir when he was 7 years old. He continued his works of art during his 20 years of military life. He worked with important artists as Elif Naci, Rahmi Pehlivanlı, Yaşar Çallı. He has been a jury member and presidential in a lot of poetry and art competition. He founded an organization called “Safi Gönüller” in which many popular poets, dancers, musicians were involved in. 47 artists led by Bekir Salim and Cemal Safi. He and his workers painted 158 3D murals in Turkey, 17 3D murals in the USA and 4 3D murals in Dubai. His two poem books are published. And his four books are ready to be published. He sings and plays saz which is a Turkish musical instrument. He currently works at Maestro Art.
